Sugar Sleuths: Journal Pages 1 - 5

I started writing in this journal before we even had a clear idea of the gameplay. During the summer, I learned that the game would have a candy theme, so I jumped onto potential character designs. Once classes started, the team played different games to get a better sense of what we wanted to accomplish in the class. We took notes on what we saw in the games and began to develop our game.

Page 1: The earliest notes on Sugar Sleuths: listing types of candy and flavors for characters. I just wrote down what I knew and googled whatever I missed.

Pages 2 and 3: Page 2 is a more focused version of the previous page. I started listing down character designs and threw a couple at the artists. The two at the top with check marks are ones that made it all the way through the conceptual phase and all the way to the finished product: Twisty (red licorice girl) and Slice (orange slice kid). Page 3 is filled with notes on the mechanics we wanted to use in Sugar Sleuths. We talked about what the mechanics would offer and what mechanics would reveal themselves with this basis.

Pages 4 and 5: Page 4 is a mistake page. I was planning on writing about the characters had gotten that day, but (I assume) I got carried away with something else and never finished it. Page 5 touches more on the characters' personalities (which was a mechanic) and physical appearances (their age determines the player's turn). I worked on a diverse team, so it wasn't odd to have a diverse cast of playable characters.
