Sugar Sleuths: Journal Pages 24 - 29

These next pages cover a lot of things: midground cabin placement, the moon's position, more to-dos, and layer reordering. The middle of this section has a BIG gap in time (thanks winter break!), but it picks right back up and becomes very focused on layer order.

Pages 24 and 25: Page 24 contains my notes for the cabins' placements and the moon's position. I wrote down important notes that concern the map's values (converting distance and degrees) and how long any player with a speed of 2.5 m would take to run around the map. This is pretty much a summary of the physics thus far. Again, writing this down really helped clear my head (marking my steps, I guess). I'm going to kind of skim over the moon notes (I talked more about this in my posts, Sketchbook Pages 21 - 25 and 26 - 30). I wrote down the moon's positions during the seasons and applied that to my map. Once I had a set range, I did a little math and got an "exact" position of the moon when the player starts on its starting position. Again, #maximumeffort .

Page 25 is another short page of notes for me. I took note of the layer friction of layer's that are very close to the player's layer. The note after that concerned mirroring foreground and background trees (and other foliage) when the player is on the opposite side of any given area. The cabins and rec areas were easier to tackle since there were around 10 sprites and I had a map. If that didn't make sense in writing, I don't blame ya. Writing it down felt odd...

Pages 26 and 27: Page 26 was written about 3 weeks after page 25. I don't know why I wasn't writing in the journal during that time... This page covers the next layer order update. I assume I stopped cold at the end of the page because I realized I was going to be writing all of this in a Google doc, so why waste paper? This page serves as an outline for future layer order notes (you can check out the final Google doc on the Projects page!). Page 27 marks the beginning of my primary task for the spring semester: layer re-re-re-re-reordering. This page is cleverly titled "Layer Checkup" ; I took note of the what the layer order stood at that current point in time (in ascending order). You can see where I erased "# objects" in some places; I just put that info in the wrong spot three times (it needed to be noted in the tile loop section). I guess I finally learned after the third time.

Pages 28 and 29: Page 28 and Page 29 is a continuation of the previous page. You can see I still managed to make a mistake writing down "3 objects" in page 28, haha. These pages list the details for layers 4 to 11 (or Clouds to Lake).
